Drywall Finishers

Drywall Finishers

The essential ingredient to any successful finishing project relies on proper surface preparation. PDC14 Drywall finishers, also called tapers, prepare unfinished interior drywall panels for painting and decorating by applying joint compound or “mud” and paper tape to joints and imperfections, leaving behind a smooth finish.

Anyone having tried to apply joint compound and leave behind a smooth usable surface understands the established muscle memory utilized by a master of this craft. The ability to work joint compound proficiently enough to minimize the sanding process is, in itself, an art form. Now imagine doing it along a ceiling while effortless gliding down the hallway on stilts. Or picture yourself spraying the mud in thin even coats to gradually build up a level five glass-like finish.

Drywall finishers have their own unique set of tools like those already mentioned to increase their efficiency. The “bazooka” is essentially a hollow metal tube with a spindle of tape at one end and a roller/cutter at the other. Joint compound is pumped into the tube and the tool is then used to lay down continuous beads of paper and mud along seams in smooth controlled lengths.

Drywall finishing is just another of our trades which sounds simplistic to the public, but requires precision training and practice to execute with any proficiency in a production environment.
